inRESPONSE Researcher Francesca Leso presents paper at EISA – August 2024
inRESPONSE Researcher Francesca Leso presents paper “The war in Ukraine and the European security order: a view from Europe’s eastern borderland” in the 17th Pan-European Conference on International Relations (EISA), at the Lille Catholic University, France, on the 27-31 August 2024.
The abstract of the paper is the following:
The war in Ukraine has undoubtedly shaken the foundations on which the European security order was built following the end of the Cold War. This article aims to contribute to this emerging debate by exploring the implications the Russian invasion of Ukraine has had on countries located at the eastern edge of the European continent – countries that, affected by long-standing territorial disputes and often caught between Western security institutions and the Russia-led security architecture, had only marginally benefitted from this order. By employing insights from the critical literature on political geography and focusing on Moldova, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, this paper thus seeks to shed some light on the impact the war in Ukraine and its wider consequences have had on the Eastern European security landscape.
